Securus had the incredible opportunity to speak at the 2025 WHCA (Washington Health Care Association) Conference, an annual event that brings together experts in long-term care to discuss needs and challenges within the assisted living and skilled nursing communities.
Our team loves to talk about what we know best, so we were thrilled to give two presentations aimed at equipping healthcare professionals with practical, real-world strategies to protect sensitive medical data. From ransomware and phishing attacks to unsecured devices, outdated software, and insider threats, we unpacked the risks facing both direct care providers and administrative staff.
We broke down why patient health records are the most valuable commodity on the dark web, detailing steps to prevent data breaches by changing small daily habits and implementing cybersecurity tools to increase protection.
Our key message was simple: cybersecurity isn’t optional, it’s critical.
In today’s digital healthcare environment, staying informed and taking preventive action is essential, not just for IT teams, but for everyone involved in patient care. Without taking steps to protect patient data, healthcare facilities are vulnerable to costly data breaches and significant downtime. Delay isn’t just risky; it’s expensive!
While the topic was serious, our team had a great time. The WHCA Conference gave our speakers a chance to connect with peers, enjoy a few laughs, and explore new ideas in a collaborative setting. Between the informative sessions, networking events, and just the general buzz of the conference, it was an inspiring experience.
Securus Systems is grateful to the WHCA for the chance to speak about topics we’re passionate about, and we’re already looking forward to attending next year’s event! Until then, our team will keep doing what we do best: helping healthcare organizations stay protected and informed.
Stay safe, stay Securus!
